One Day for State

One Day for STATE amounts to far more than just numbers. It’s a celebration that revolves around the excitement of philanthropy, the difference Jackrabbits can make when faced with a good challenge, and the connection we all have in our passions for SDSU.

In 24 hours, 4,888 donors came together as one, raising $1,617,648 to transform lives at SDSU, bolstering scholarships, academic programming, research, athletics and student support.Jackrabbit mascot holds up a Number one foam finger.

The total number of donors saw a jump of over 1,100 more than last year’s event. Of the 4,888 donors, 484 identified as current students and 439 as faculty/staff, demonstrating the excitement both on campus and beyond. The event made history by inspiring donors from each of the 50 states to join in the excitement and give back, unlocking an additional $50,000 in challenge funds for their efforts. 537 social ambassadors rallied together near and far to shout their love of SDSU from the virtual rooftops, spreading the word online.

The fourth annual One Day for STATE was a testament to the unwavering loyalty and resilience of the SDSU community in a year unlike ever before. Though faced with adversity, the Jackrabbit family was innovative in navigating ways to celebrate safely and carry on a tradition of inspiring change at State. Jackrabbits near and far showed up, some in person and some online, in a wave of support and generosity. 2020 wasn’t just a record-breaking year for dollars raised; it was a record year for connecting past, current and future Jackrabbits.

Though the celebration looked different than years past, the day offered plenty of opportunities to get involved. Alumni, donors, students and friends posed for photos around the globe with Flat Jack, a fun addition to One Day for STATE to demonstrate how far Jack (and passion worldwide for SDSU) can go. The festivities continued by bringing the excitement to local Jackrabbits as Jack the Jackrabbit, accompanied by the Hobo Day Committee and the infamous Bummobile, traveled around Brookings, igniting enthusiasm for SDSU. Jack’s Journey culminated in a return to the SDSU Foundation for the virtual Yellow and Blue Block Party. The online event included a message from President Barry Dunn and appearances by the Hobo Day Committee, followed by performances from the dance team, the cheer squad and The Pride of the Dakotas.

The celebration starts with one day, but the effects of Jackrabbit Nation’s generosity will be felt at SDSU year-round.
