Hughes named Coach Wooden Citizenship Cup High School recipient

Abigail Hughes, a South Dakota State University freshman planning to go into pharmacy, was named the Coach Wooden Citizenship Cup High School Recipient. A standout basketball and track athlete for Glenwood (Iowa) High School, Hughes is now a member of the SDSU track and field team.Abigail Hughes

“It is with dedication, leadership and a strong will that an athlete becomes great, but it is with a gracious heart, the ability to overcome adversity, and the willingness to provide a helping hand in the community when an athlete becomes exemplary and the sport becomes ’more than a game,’”

Hughes said. “I will forever be appreciative and grateful for Athletes for a Better World, for having chosen me to be a part of this honorable and inspiring organization and elite group of athletes!”

Hughes competes in relays, sprinting events and the 400 hurdles for the Jackrabbits.

Hughes, along with Myah Selland, were honored at a virtual award ceremony on April 27.
