Celebrating and excelling despite COVID

It has been a challenge to decide what to write here over the last 16 months. Time seems to stand still and things change quickly, all at the same time. I hope as you read this we are continuing on the path back.A woman poses in front of a book shelf

As things started to pick up in the spring semester, I wanted to make sure that I didn’t lose sight of the enormity of what happened here and so many other places. As we have increased our in-person activities, it is clear that we have a renewed appreciation for shared experiences, and we are thrilled for opportunities to bring Jackrabbits together.

I have an enormous sense of pride in our alma mater over what has transpired over the course of the last academic year, and I hope you do too. The alteration we experienced in some ways taught us what we really want to prioritize and maintain in our post-pandemic lives. I have an expanded appreciation for the people who serve others and a deep gratitude for those who share their time, energy and resources with those who need them. During the last year we were reminded time and time again that together we can do hard things.

That sense of together, sense of team, is what we celebrate in this issue. Despite all of the challenges we faced, the in-person commencement celebrated us doing the most important thing we do here—educate the future and prepare them to be leaders in their communities and chosen industries. We had teams reach new levels of success, exciting us with the promise for even greater achievements ahead.

For everything that was changed in the last year, it is nice to know some things have also remained constant.

With loyal heart so true,
