Construction begins on new residence halls, expanded union

Ground was broken April 20 on four new residence halls that will add 802 beds to campus by August 2013 at a cost of $45.7 million.

All of the halls will be on the southeast end of campus. Three will be built on the north, south and west sides of Pierson Hall while the fourth will be built south of Brown Hall.

Dining services in the University Student Union also will be expanded to help accommodate the increased number of students living on campus. The expansion, which also is set for an August 2013 completion, is slated to add 20,000 square feet to the union and 300 additional seats to dining services at a cost of $8.3 million.

Construction of both projects began in late April and went full swing after graduation May 5.
