Thirty vocalists and 10 chaperones made the first international travel destination for the Women’s Choir as the group traveled to Russia June 16-14..
The choir members performed 16 songs at four musical venues with each performance lasting an hour. The women’s last performance at the Social Services Center in St. Petersburg struck an emotional chord for many of the choir members.“The women singing for the underprivileged children was a highlight,†director Laura Diddle says. “We brought the children SDSU backpacks with Jackrabbit gear and some school supplies.â€
Meanwhile, Jazz Ensemble I traveloed to Germany ansd Switzerland June 29 to July 7. The highlight for the 15-member ensemble, which was joined by 10 adults, was performing at two concerts at the world-renowned Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland.
The jazz group also played at a Munich beer garden, a “huge outdoor space,†according to director Nathan Jorgensen, and a small hotel garden in Ruhpolding, Germany, as well as a monastery courtyard in Oberndorf, Germany.
