FUNDS FOR EXCELLENCE

Enriching the Jackrabbit Experience

Less than one year after the Honors College Challenge was issued, the goal of $4.5 million was exceeded. There are now commitments of $4.57 million in place to support the mission of the Honors College. The endowments will provide $180,000 a year on an annual basis – more than double the amount previously available for Honors College programming.

In April 2011, Van and Barbara Fishback of Brookings provided a $3 million commitment as a 2-for-1 challenge match. Other donors needed to provide up to $1.5 million in support of endowments. Last fall, Dr. Richard Deming, a 1976 chemistry alumnus and a leading cancer doctor in Des Moines, made a $1 million bequest to establish an endowment in the Honors College that will support the study of ethics.
